yg acoustics.... every freakin year...

like a broken record.... these speakers rule. they'll rule your pocketbook as well.

using tenor amps (just as hansen likes to) with excpetional success. I'm pretty sure I saw a dcs Puccini stack... which places the msrp in this room to well over a quarter of a million dollars.

yup.... 250k - that's in usd... and hard earned schebang.

everyone loves themselves 'dem quads.

vandersteen - playing some floyd on vinyl

ever see the flck se7en???

remember the glutton.... who was forced to eat for days on end then he was kicked in the gut thereby bursting his stomach?

I'm that guy right now... if someone belted me in the gut - I'd be in trouble.

so.... this may look familiar.... I hooked up with the high end burger joint in my hotel again - except that this year I don't have a 4 hour plane ride ahead of me (as I did last year).... huge mistake (last year) by the way....

there is soooooo much sodium in this meal you see here that it could potentially kill some species. last year I ate at this place just before heading to the airport.... only to find out that I would have what I can only describe as a hydration emergency. my eyes were burning, ears were ringing, no fluid would quench my thirst, etc...

i drank 1.5 liters of power aide only to not feel the urge to go to the bathroom until some 5 hours later.... it was miserable and mind blowing all at the same time.

the meal was worth it (it just requied slightly more planning this time around).

since i was positive that the burger would be perfectly cooked, I upgraded to Kobe beef this year... wow. that stuff is fantastic.... truly.

while it was an expensive burger by just about any standard.... I felt I was worth it ;).

(as a personal rule i always cover my dining and entertainment (hah - like I've got the time/energy for actual 'entertainment') on this trip...)

I have no regrets at all.... other than thinking i maybe should have been packing some tums....

blt burger @ the mirage.... One of the best I've ever had (and I've had wayyyy too many).

mitz now has a 92 inch dlp

looks like gah'bage... complete gah'bage....

Sony has given up on oled... lg didn't

2.9 mm thick..... and totally gorgeous picture. higher contrast ratio than I've previously seen anywhere...

when you hear someone say 'I built a box for my speakers'

this wasn't what I had in mind....

Fanny Wang headphones

stopped to listen... not because of their awesome name... but because they almost weren't allowed to exhibit due to an infringement claim ( and subsequent injunction) by monstercable...

they're quite good... especially for 170 bucks....

best mousepad ever!!!!!

ever....

how I KNOW attendance at the show is up this year???

the Asian pavilion was Jam packed.... it is usually a ghost town...

nothing particularly funny or interesting being shown there this year, though...

ya don't say????

Massa better slow down on the cd/dvd burning racket

it's a damn wdtv killer.... that won't fit properly on your shelf. I'm probably going to get one once they support netflix... (very shortly im told)

Hehe.... qbert...

no... I'm not interested in sharing...

ya know... I wonder how much less I got acomplished my first year here (on a day by day basis)

there are so many tricks to getting from a to b at this show.... lines you should never wait in, and directions on paper which completely suck...

for instance.... today I could have waited well over an hour for a bus at my hotel... instead... I hoofed across the street to the Venetian, ripped thru the casino and out a service exit, and was on a bus 10 minutes later..

sat next to a buyer from abe's of Maine on the bus ride in

he gave me his card.... said the next time I was making a purchase to phone him personally..... as he'd 'hook me up'...

not sure what to think of that... maybe that means the next camera I buy won't be a re-import.... or an av receiver will actually have valid mfg support..

hard to say, really...

oh... almost forgot... he works out of jersey... yeaaaaaaa!!!!

swarmed at breakfast....

damn... tame birds...

using airplane mode today

batching updates... I had to charge my phone twice yesterday due to data network retransmits... whacked a fuly charged cell in 3 hours ;)

can you imagine what their termination room looks like

these 6 pair st-fiber blocks are all over the place...

Well, after a FULL day of walking - i'm actually quite surprised that i'm not in as much pain as is typical..

Normally early AM on day 2 is a rough one – you wake up.. and the  SECOND your feet hit the floor – you nearly fall over from the shocking jolt of pain traversing your feet and legs.  I’m sure the condition is based, loosely, on the type of footwear one selects – which varies from year to year.

What I’d really like to know is how MANY miles I actually walked yesterday… I’m sure there’s an app for that – I just don’t know what it is.

If I were a betting man – I’d venture a guess that the number is probably around 12.

According to the “the wizard” (google), humans average somewhere in the region of 3 miles per hour…  given the traffic conditions and the reduced gait (when something caught my attention) – I’m going to maintain that my guess is pretty accurate.

crap... another day - and up like a shot - my body swears it is going to be late for work (or something)

Made it to 6:30 today… gonna try to make it to 7am tomorrow (which is still 2.5 hours before I can enter the show)…

I spoke to a arin a bit about the end of the world

(ie... the end of the ipv4 space)

they will be out of addresses in 2 months.... but better news....

in 6 months time people holding unused blocks will be allowed to sell blocks on the open market...

since there will be no additional addresses available in 2 months anyone sitting on sayyyy.... an unused /24 block could certainly monetize what isnt being used - and is needed by people who can't deploy v6 just yet..

;)

$$$$

aiwigame.com

no idea what was going on here... but two dudes were playing streetfighter wiimote style with iPhones.

everyone loves a roomba

say hi to the scoomba.... it's a wet floor scrubbing robot.....

75 inch led

absolutely jaw droopingly stunning. 1 cm thick.....

mark my words... this will replace my dlp...

probably retails for 20k tho ;(

general tv trend

say goodbye to clunky bezels.... everything I've seen is 'borderless' for the most part....

I like it alot.

just subbed about 10 typos in the past 3 posts...

I'll fix em later.... no offense intended... somehow the iPhone corrected the phrase three mails into 'queer mails' heh...

i warned ya early on ;)

big ego games???

they're pimping a service....

"play games with hotties". not sure what that's about... wonder if the hotties are any good at actually playin games...

no idea what Audi was doing here.... but they had an interesting booth concept

blinding white light. blinding.

heh... phone is nearly dead

been in a dead spot for the past hour.... with three mails waiting to send ;)

b&w sticking to the formula

always attractive... always expensive.

holy crap.... someone at samsung must have insulted someone at sony

the booth is easily twice the size of last year. all they're able to talk about it seems is google tv. no mention of ps3 - heh... whoops.

the screen is so large there are 3 2k projectors stacked to fill the screen....

nuts.

they want your business back.... I suspect they'll need to do alot to earn it.

autostereoscopic 3d

sayyyyy whaaaat?

essentially sheeting is used to create a parallax.... the line to see it was huge.... maybe later....

swan speakers....

yeaaaaaaa yeaaaaaahhhh. jaron likes em....

so how big is the las Vegas convention center

this is a photo of 1/4 of the south hall... you can't even see all the way to the end

there's also a center and north hall as well.... truly a mammoth show....

all filled with tech crap.... it's alot to take in...

brilliant

Verizon has something they wanna say... wonder if it has anything to do with apple products?

Habey reference boards and industrial computers

specialty built appliances for custom firewalls and embedded systems. their stuff is exceptional - supporting most operating environments and deployment scenarios. they recently started doing digital signage equipment as well. hot stuff. I saw a few boxes they make that look surprisingly similar to a few embedded devices we have at TFT.

upstar... enjoy the wonderful

wonder what they're referring to?

;)

coverage inside the convention center is much better than anywhere else in town

femtocells for the win....

coverage will continue.... I was worried for a second.

how is it I am able to snap a photo of someone walking so clearly with my dumpy iPhone camera???

because they're moving at the same pace the bus is....

bah duh duh duh..... pwishhhhhhh!

yeow..... cell networks are busting at the seams

phone calls are out of the question... emails are taking between 10-20 minutes apiece....

100 plus thousand of anything on a network has to be difficult to plan for....

q&a #1

Q:  Is your blog going to have something on it other than you eating?

Sincerely,

Redacted

A: No.  I find that food adequately fills the dead-space which currently occupies my soul.  I’m trying to compensate for something that I can’t fully describe in the scope of this post – and food has always  been a tremendous crutch.

All kidding aside, there’s a darn good reason why the food is taken in excess (and posted about)… of course, the best type of comedy is the type where one turns the mirror on oneself to reveal true ridiculousness.  It started last year – people being in disbelief at what I ate, and when – but there’s a reason.  There’s a high likelihood that I will NOT eat again until 8-10pm this evening.

“How could that be… there’s food all over Vegas?”

You’d be entirely correct, except that I’m not going to be at the hotels most of the time.  The convention center recognizes this and has some of the most ridiculously overpriced swill I’ve ever had the displeasure of consuming.  For instance, at Uncle Manichewitz’s Authentic New York Style Deli – you can score a pastrami on rye with a crappy deli-pickle for the bargain price of 17 dollars (and that doesn’t even include a drink or chips…. those are extra, duhhhh).  You like Sbarro?  Right on – you can eat all day long…. But it’ll be marked up 40%, and it’s standing room only…

fuggitaboutit...

I can’t in good conscience justify this – nor will I oblige them.  If I’m paying 17 bucks for anything – it better be hot, delivered on a real plate, come with silverware, and be delectable. J

So – to fully answer you “mr redacted” I’m binge eating – and people seem to find that funny….

Now – I’m off to get some breakfast.  The show opens in 1.5 hours – and I need a little something to help get me thru the day *sob*…

Please… keep the questions coming (they don’t even have to relate to technology) – I’ll happily answer them… and make fun of you, if at all possible…

By the way…. There were 1000+ hits to the blog yesterday – I have no idea who all of you are… but, welcome….. J

in a town that prides themselves on being anything to everyone

why in the sam-hell is it so difficult to find monster?

knowing the difficulties I had in the past (walked for over an hour to the edge of the strip... into a demilitarized zone to get mine last year); this year I had the airport cabbie help me...

after explaining to her that it was like red bull... she finally understood (and asked my why I didn't like rockstar energy drink???)...

we proceeded to no less than 4 minimarts... until we gave up and started hitting liquor stores. finally ended up finding it in a place that I can only aptly describe as a functioning speakeasy.... a dark dirty place with no patrons, some pool tables up front, and a back room with rows of packaged liquor. had I had my wits about me... I would have snapped a picture. I must admit - i was more on guard for the nonexistant bouncer-like figure to emmerge from the shadows, mug me, and send me packing...

it really was quite something.

oh well.... we got it... all is well - they're on ice.

so the day begins ;)

dessert.... like it might have been necessary???
